If you’ve seen Titanic, Catch Me If You Can or Inception, you probably know who Leonardo DiCaprio is. A four-time Academy Award nominee and a star in countless cinema classics spanning three decades, DiCaprio continues to make his mark on the world of movies that we hold so dearly to our culture. Now, more than ever is a time to realize that DiCaprio has become not only a star on the screen, but also a pivotal cornerstone to the environmental conservation movement.

You might think this is a new breakthrough in Leonardo’s career, but he has been passionate about environmental issues since the beginning of his stardom. In 1998, DiCaprio founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation with the aim of preserving wild spaces on earth from being touched by human development and promoting the harmonious relationship between the natural world, and the industrial world we live in today. Since the birth of the foundation the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has raised over $10 million in grants to help environmental initiatives, green energy research and the assistance of people in places around the world that are in dire need of clean water after pollution has poisoned their land.

Most recently, Leonardo has been at the helm of creating multiple innovative fundraising campaigns to raise over $60 million in support of environmental programs around the world. Through his website, DiCaprio encourages his fans to get involved in simple ways to help the environment and the people and animals that live in it. This is critical for change because it shows people exactly what they can do to make a huge difference and in turn, it empowers them to do better.

Leonardo DiCaprio is not only an actor that has changed the way we love on this planet, but also an active environmentalist that is changing the way we live on this planet. That’s a Good Sign if you ask me.
