Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds

By Kevin Alan Lamb

Had a chance to get low with Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds in Austin for SXSW with my partner in crime, the Honey Badger.

While in New Orleans for my cousin Bret’s bachelor party about two years ago, my vacation girlfriend told me about the Dirty Birds, from her hometown of Brooklyn. I’m often told about bands, but it’s not until I see them perform and come alive before my eyes that I begin to fall in love.

I was blown away and quickly fell in love with the eight-piece Funk/Soul band, particularly lead singer Arleigh Kincheloe. The most talented leads have the unwavering ability to make everyone in the room feel like he or she is pouring themselves into their every movement, lyric, and smile just for you. As fiery as she is talented, Arleigh wasted no time reserving a comfortable place in my big and beautiful heart.

After the show we had a chance to chat and they expressed that they loved our Good Sign and had seen it all over the place. Upon revealing that I was not only a member of our #GoodSignFamily, but in-fact Good Sign Man, their excitement peaked and they gifted me a business card. It has taken me a minute because life is hectic, but I wanted to thank Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds for one of the more memorable performance of my SXSW14, with my best friend.

Now that the dust has settled, my excitement is ramping with the discovery that they will be performing at Electric Forest in June. More and more these days I am embodying the credo, until we meet again. Please watch this video and shoot over to their Facebook page and give-em a like.
